Unit 3: Where we are in Place and Time This unit our school was practicing being balanced and flexible! We were both online and in school. The grade 2 students did an amazing job of adjusting to our changes and succeeding with all of the tasks that were placed in front of them.  Our central idea for this unit was: Exploration has a lasting impact on both people and the plant. We explored ideas and imaginings about exploration as well as about indigenous people.  First, we thought about exploration in our own lives and about what it means to explore. We took turns sharing places that we have explored, and places that we'd like to explore more. We thought about the central idea and took about each section for further inspection.  We liked learning about explorers in the past and their impact on the world. We created a class book, and designed and made two maths games. We also worked on our personal and social skills, working together to understand how it feels to be left out, and how we can show that we respect each other both in and outside of the classroom.  Unit of Inquiry Theme : How The World Works ( Students explored an aspect of the underlined section ) An inquiry into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific principals; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment. While doing that, they explored thinking routines that will help them deepen their understanding and provide critical reflection and action opportunities. But, more importantly, they laid strong foundations to create a positive classroom atmosphere where everyone feels safe and welcomed.
