Week 14 Blog!
Term 2- Week 14- 2nd Grade Blog
LOOKING BACK:
UOI
*Students were very excited to begin creating our own town community within the classroom! We first took a walk around the neighborhood to brainstorm the types of places we could see. We then created a list of all the businesses and organizations in a community. Finally, students sorted these items into categories, which they created.
Once that was taken care of, we were free to start applying to jobs, create our town map, and name our town!

Math
*We moved on to our next addition and subtraction strategy: Break it Apart. Although this strategy looks slightly different for addition and subtraction, the core strategy is the same. Students practiced both methods, and even made homework for each other to practice at home!

English
*In poetry, we studied published authors to find tips that we could use in our own poems. For example, we looked for repetition, white space, and creative line breaks- then tried these out on our writing!

LOOKING AHEAD:
UOI
*We will spend most of the week getting our businesses and organizations up and running! Students will need to submit an inventory of all the people and things they need to do their job successfully. They will also create signs and "storefronts" so that they are ready to open when we get back after winter vacation!

Math
*Next week in math we'll continue addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers. We will learn a new math game to review what we've learned so far, and we will also do some extra practice, based on how students did with our latest quiz.
English
*We will continue our unit of poetry by taking a deeper look at comparisons! We'll study how poets compare one thing or feeling to another, and we'll practice using comparative language in our own poetry.
