Unit 4: Sharing the Planet

During this unit, we had the International Children's Festival! Our classroom was Norway and we learned all about the Northern lights as well as Gnome folklore. We also had a fun time learning about all of the different countries that other classrooms were!

In this unit we were learning all about conflict and how to be peacemakers. We were able to practice how to bring peace to ourselves and how we can work to bring peace to our community and our world.

We wrote our own classroom books titles, "We are peacemakers." We were authors and illustrators in making our own scenarios and conflicts and showing how we can be peacemakers in those moments.

We learned about different historical conflicts and the ways in which people respond; protest, cooperation, fighting, ignoring, compromise. We learned about different protests and even wrote our own protest songs for different conflicts we see in our own communities.

Finally, we chose a conflict in our community that we wanted to solve and made action toward solving those problems. The problems we chose ranged from pollution to bullying, recycling and fighting. We made posters and board games, as well as recycling bins for our classrooms. Everyone worked so hard on trying to solve their problems and finding creative solutions to spread awareness for their conflict.

We were able to share all that we learned with the Grade 1s. We shared the posters and board games that we made spread awareness while having fun and practicing our communication and leadership skills!

We leaned a lot this unit and I cannot wait to see what we have in store in the next one!
