LOOKING BACK
Students also have been practicing some different storytelling techniques, such as using emphasis, different tones, and projecting your voice!
Investigating classic fairy tale books. |
Bo reads a historical fiction story. |
Students watch a video story that is meant to be a "call to action" to help protect elephants. |
Kurea, Rima and Jack use story dice to help them tell a story right on the spot! |
Yusuke watches a visual story that makes you feel all sorts of emotions. |
Shosuke, Kirato and Kaname listen to a scary story. |
Students listen and read to various fictional stories. |
Everyone is hard at work rotating through the different story stations! |
In English, we started writing our own fictional stories. We got ideas from the story dice game, and from our storytelling journals. Students also learned how to create a story map before they start writing, in order to have a better idea of who is in the story, where the story takes place, and what will happen in the beginning, the middle, and end!
In math, students got into groups of three, and brainstormed various probability/ likelihood games or activities they could create. Then, they spent a few days making these games so that the rest of the class could play them!
VIP OF THE WEEK
Playing a probability game. |
Constructing a probability game! |
Probability Wheels Game |
Building a game to practice probability. |
VIP OF THE WEEK
In UOI, we will investigate WHY people tell stories. We will listen, watch, read and perform different types of stories in an effort to understand the many reasons that people tell stories. We will also continue to practice our own storytelling skills, such as enunciation and putting stress on certain words.
In math, we will make some games and projects that involve probability and chance, using fractions and percents to support our connections with likelihood of events.
In English, we will begin writing our own gripping fictional stories- while also continuing to read and listen to mentor texts that provide great examples of fictional stories- whether realistic fiction or not!
