Our town's "block party" to build community

The hospital gets busy after injuries from the storm!

LOOKING BACK
The past two weeks have gone by in a blur! Students have begun operating and living in our simulated community, "G2 Special City". They have established many systems in our town, including a subway system, a renewable energy system (an electricity plant powered by water) and a postal system to communicate with one another. They have overcome personal obstacles, such a lost dog, as well as town-wide problems, such as a severe thunderstorm. Every day I look forward to seeing what new ideas the students will bring to our town! During the last week of school, families will be invited to our "Town Hall Meeting", where you will be able to find out more about what students have been up to! More details coming soon....

Of course, we have also been hard at work memorizing our lines for the YEP performance, trying on costumes, and adding the finishing touches to our background art and sound effects props! YEP is inching closer and closer, and I think we are all nervous but excited to share our performance!

In English, students have tried out writing poetry. They've used objects, places, and things in nature to help inspire them with ideas, and they've used their "poet's brains" to think outside of the box, and compare things in new or clever ways!

In math, students have continued their time practice, while also brainstorming what they know about other types of measurement, such as temperature, weight, volume, and length/ distance. They began thinking about measurement purposes, units, and tools!

VIP OF THE WEEK

Last week Kurea was our VIP of the week, and she shared a very detailed poster about her life and family! She also shared some great books from home, and her very favorite stuffed animal- a cat named Lebo!

Before that, Kyle brought a book from home for his VIP: Edward Tulane, the Japanese version!

LOOKING AHEAD

We've got a four day week ahead of us, so even less time to do a lot of work still! Students will continue their work with YEP, including a dress rehearsal in the gym.

We'll continue our town as well, thinking about more ways to improve our growing community, while also responding to everyday "fate mail" challenges and issues.

In math, we'll continue our work with measurement, and in English, we'll find out more ways to write poetry, including conversation poems and story-like poems!
